Is it possible to simply browse the entire archive?
Yes. A search with no criteria entered will find all images.


How do I view an image caption?
If you move you mouse over any image thumbnail you will be able to see the image caption. If you wish to see all the image information click on 'View details and enlarge photo'.


How can I view the images at a higher resolution without downloading huge files?
Click 'View Details and Enlarge Photo' or 'Enlarge photo' as appropriate.


How do I download an image?
If you simply click on the 'download this photo' button a high-resolution version of the image will appear in you image browser.


How do I download an image to a specific location?
If you wish to download the image to a specific location (Windows) rights click and 'Save Files as' (Apple) CTRL click and Save file to your default download files location.


I don't seem to be able to download high-resolution images.
You need to be registered and logged in to download high-resolution images. If you have not already registered, please do so by clicking here.


How do I keep my own selection of images (e.g. as a lightbox) to view without searching for them again?
You can create your own pages in 'My Album'. Simply click 'Add File to album' to create a personalized selection of images. You can view the images by clicking on the album name from your list of albums.


I want to send a selection of images to a colleague but the files are too big to e-mail.
Simple create an album and use the 'E-mail this album command'. The website will automatically e-mail a link to your album. (The Recipient will need to be registered and logged on to view high-resolution images.)


What should I do if I can't find the image I am looking for?
Read the notes under the search boxes on the advanced search page. If you still can't find what you are looking for, please contact us and we will do what we can to help.


What happens if I print the images for personal use?
You will be in breach of copyright if you use the images for any purpose other than those specified in out Terms and Conditions. You may be liable to pay significant fees if we catch you. The RYA is a large organisation with a substantial legal department, so watch out.


I want to keep a selection of images to come back to at a later date. Is this possible?
You may create, store and e-mail your own personal selection of images. Click Albums [link] to create an album. You may create as many albums as you like. You can add images to albums one at a time or in bulk using the check boxes under each image. You can change the active album from the pull-down menu at the top of the image grid page at any time.


When I download a high-resolution image I seem to loose all the text data (IPTC file)
You can download images directly to your browser simply by clicking the download button below each image. The image will open in a new browser window. Most browsers remove the IPTC text data. If you right-click you can download an image to a specific location. This method preserves all the image data (IPTC file).


I need loads of images for my publication. How can I download them as a big batch?
Complete albums may be downloaded as zip files. There is no limit to the file-size that may be downloaded if you need multiple images.
